British Invasion at Blue

From time to time this season, we’ll be inviting guest bloggers from around the resort (and world!) to contribute content to the Lift Line. This week’s entry comes from Ndrika Anyika, a bubbly Brit who we’re fortunate to have as part of our foreign worker program here at Blue Mountain. Read about her first time on snow and her dreams of Sochi 2014.

ndrika2My name is Ndrika and I arrived in beautiful Blue about a month ago. I am originally from Sheffield in the UK, home to Sean Bean and the Arctic Monkeys amongst other things! I have wanted to visit Canada for as long as I can remember, so once I graduated from university last year, I saved up enough money working in the television industry, so that I could make my dream come true.

Canada always seemed to have the perfect mix of big cities and beautiful landscapes and I am not disappointed. My first destination was Toronto for two months then I headed to Blue Mountain to work on Front Desk. Prior to this I had never skied or snowboarded before but thanks to the perks of the job, I aim to be of an Olympic standard after my time here.

I have skied twice now and found it quite easy to pick up. I absolutely love it and can never wait to head back on the slopes. The lessons take you through everything you need to know from putting on your ski boots to teaching how to use the lifts. At first it seemed like I would never pick it up like everyone else and would be confined to the smaller slopes for eternity but less than two hours later I was confidently going down the undergraduate slope and more importantly I was having fun doing it. I also recommend night skiing (don’t worry, there are light on the slopes!)

I never knew that I would have so much fun on the snow and living at Blue Mountain in general. I have met so many amazing people, some of whom I live with. There is always socialising to be done and I was shocked to find out that even in the Blue Mountain Village there are clubs and many bars to be found.

I am really enjoying my time at Blue and have already had so much fun, which is sure to continue. In the mean time, I’m heading off to the slopes, so look out for me at the next winter Olympics!
