Blue Mountain is Ontario's Winter Playground

It’s officially a wrap on our record-setting season as the 2012/13 winter on the slopes ended on a high note, April 28, 2013. The final weekend of spring skiing and snowboarding offered the rare novelty of a “tee and ski” with the opening of Monterra Golf and marked the latest date Blue Mountain has ever had its slopes open. The record-setting closing date in 2010/11 of April 24 was surpassed and met with enthusiasm by skiers, snowboarders and resort employees.

The extended season is thanks in part to Mother Nature with large volumes of natural snowfall this winter complemented by our snowmaking and grooming teams who worked tirelessly to ensure as long a season as possible. The installation of snowmaking upgrades and advances in technology enabled us to make snow at milder temperatures which served us well this winter. Snowmaking upgrades will continue throughout the off-season in preparation for next winter. Aside from the conditions and marathon season on-hill, we have reason to celebrate even further following the announcement in February of the Orchard expansion. The end of the season on the slopes this spring propels us into construction mode as we groom the terrain in the south end of the resort for the launch of 6 new trails and 1 high-speed six-person chairlift, debuting in winter 2013/14.

The fun doesn’t stop when the lifts do. Join us this green season for mountain biking and experience 2 new trails as well as a made-over existing trail (Haole) thanks to a partnership with Gravity Logic. Mountain Bike season is scheduled to begin May 24, 2013, weather and conditions permitting. Our attractions have expanded as well with the highly anticipated introduction of Wind Rider Triple Zips this summer (July 2013), elevating the Natural High experience. Timber Challenge High Ropes, Woodlot Low Ropes, Cascade Putting Course, Mountaintop Segway Tours and Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster round out the Natural High experience this green season.

Thank you for joining us this winter on the slopes or in the Village. Keep in touch year-round with email and stay connected through our social media channels. We hope to see you this green season and look forward to an exciting season on the slopes in 2013/14!
