Après All Ways

The tradition of après ski is as old as skiing itself. A highly social pastime, skiing brought together like-minded people who loved winter and outdoor sport. These same people also celebrated in sharing their on-hill adventures with their fellow skiers over a pint in a chalet or lodge.

Since the early days of prohibition and the Ski Barn to current day Blue Mountain, the après ski scene is woven into the fabric of our industry and resort community. To be clear, although the term après may conjure up thoughts of shot ski’s, and bar dancing in ski boots, it certainly doesn’t have to take place in a bar, or with alcoholic beverages. The tradition of après ski simply means wrapping up your day on the slopes with friends and family, enjoying time together. So, whether it’s family fireside story-sharing, craft beer with friends overlooking the mountain, charcuterie and wine, a moonlit skate with hot chocolate, Blue Mountain has plenty of ways you can get your après.

Jozos Original Apres
Jozo’s Bar
We wouldn’t be staying true to the origins of our resort if we didn’t lead off the list with Blue Mountain’s first actual “bar”. Founder Jozo Weider arrived at Blue Mountain in 1941, when Ontario was still in prohibition. Jozo would spend most of his life trying to obtain a liquor license for the Resort. Although he did make some headway, it wasn’t until after his death in 1973 that the license was granted, and a bar was opened in honour of the man who dedicated his life to his love of skiing and alpine sports. Jozo’s Bar is still a favourite amongst locals and guests. Located in the Blue Mountain Inn, this is where you can engage in live music, great food and yes, even a shot ski and a dance in your ski boots.
